MEDICAL CAMP AT ARMY GOODWILL SCHOOL ZIRAN: A STEP TOWARDS HEALTHIER FUTURES

On 30 March 2026, Chinar Warriors organised a comprehensive medical camp at Army Goodwill School Ziran, Baramulla. The initiative reflected a strong commitment towards preventive healthcare, community welfare and the holistic development of children in the region. The primary objective of the camp was to promote awareness about general health, hygiene and preventive medical practices among school-going children. A dedicated team of three doctors from SDH (Sub-District Hospital) Tangmarg, including a specialist paediatrician, participated in the camp to ensure quality medical consultation and care. The response to the camp was highly encouraging, with a total of 655 students i.e 275 girls and 380 boys along with 25 teachers actively participating.

One of the key highlights of the camp was the focus on preventive child healthcare. Deworming of all students was carried out using Albendazole, an essential step in improving child nutrition and overall health. This intervention is particularly significant in school-age children, as it helps prevent common parasitic infections that can adversely affect growth, learning ability and general well-being.

In addition to medical treatment, the camp emphasized health education and awareness. A special session was conducted by a Lady Medical Officer from SDH Tangmarg, who addressed teenage girls on the important subject of menstrual health and hygiene. The session aimed to break taboos, encourage open discussion and equip young girls with accurate knowledge about managing menstrual health safely and confidently. The officer also sensitized the students about the importance of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, which plays a crucial role in preventing cervical cancer. Taking this initiative forward, the unit has committed itself to facilitating HPV vaccination for all girl students in the age group of 14–15 years. This step demonstrates a proactive approach towards long-term health protection and reflects a forward-looking vision for the well-being of young girls in the community.

Another important awareness session was conducted by the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) of the Army, focusing on personal hygiene and the importance of proper handwashing practices. In today’s context, where communicable diseases can spread rapidly, such awareness plays a critical role in ensuring a healthier school environment. The students showed great enthusiasm during these sessions, actively engaging with the speakers, asking questions and demonstrating a keen interest in learning about health-related practices.

The camp also provided a range of essential medical services. These included eyesight screening, measurement of height and weight for younger children and general health check-ups for all students. Such screenings are vital for early detection of potential health issues, enabling timely intervention and treatment. Teachers and other school staff were not left out; they too underwent general health check-ups, ensuring that the entire school community benefited from the initiative. One of the notable outcomes of the camp was the identification of students requiring vision correction. In coordination with SDH Tangmarg, the Army has planned to provide free spectacles to these students. This step will significantly improve their learning experience, as clear vision is fundamental to academic performance and overall confidence.

Parents of the students were also kept informed about the medical findings and recommendations. Appropriate medical advice and follow-up instructions were communicated to ensure continuity of care beyond the camp. This approach highlights the importance of community involvement and reinforces the connection between the school, healthcare providers and families. The medical camp received an overwhelmingly positive response from students, teachers and parents alike. It not only addressed immediate healthcare needs but also instilled a sense of awareness and responsibility towards personal health among young minds. The active participation and confidence displayed by the students during the interactions reflected the success of the initiative.

Such efforts by the Indian Army go beyond their primary role of national security, showcasing their deep commitment to social responsibility and community development. By organizing medical camps and awareness programs, the Army continues to play a vital role in improving the quality of life in remote and underserved areas. The medical camp at Army Goodwill School Ziran stands as a commendable example of collaborative effort between the Army and civil healthcare authorities. It not only provided essential medical services but also empowered the younger generation with knowledge and awareness. Initiatives like these contribute significantly to building a healthier, more informed and resilient community, paving the way for a brighter future.
