Despite being heavily outnumbered, he refused to back down, fighting ferociously to protect his comrades and innocent civilians. During the intense firefight, he sustained grievous injuries, yet he valiantly continued his battle against the terrorists. In a remarkable act of selflessness, he shielded a fellow soldier from enemy gunfire, saving his life but sacrificing his own. Lance Naik Nazir Ahmed Wani succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a legacy that will forever inspire generations to come. In recognition of his extraordinary gallantry and supreme sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the prestigious Ashok Chakra, India's highest peacetime gallantry award.
